From Tuesday, November 12 to Thursday, November 14, the Durham College (DC) International Education office is hosting International Education Week (IEW) in collaboration with academic schools and departments across the college. IEW showcases the impact international education has in preparing students to work in a global environment and attract future leaders locally and from abroad.

IEW activities at DC include events organized throughout the week to recognize international students, education abroad opportunities and internationalization at home. It’s an opportunity for the community to better understand cultural differences and gain a new perspective of the world.

The goal for the week is to expand perspectives and provide a view of Canada’s cultural mosaic through the lens of international education

Events happening during IEW include:

Cultural Marketplace
Tuesday, November 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Pit, Gordon Willey building, Oshawa campus

Celebrate IEW and Canada’s cultural mosaic! Catch a panel of students sharing their experiences with internationalization plus cultural performances. Visit cultural booths, purchase jewelry created by Indigenous artists and learn about the World University Service of Canada Student Refugee Program. Refreshments will be available.

Global Graduate Class
Wednesday, November 13 from 11 a.m. to noon
Global Classroom, Centre for Collaborative Education, Oshawa campus

DC alumni from four countries will join the Global Class to talk about their career paths and what it’s like to live and work around the world.  Co-hosted by DC president Don Lovisa and professor Lon Appleby. Students are welcome to attend the class or join via livestream and ask questions using the designated chat line.

International Tasting
Thursday, November 14 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Atrium, W. Galen Weston Centre for Food, Whitby campus

The Centre for Food’s Culinary Club will delight the Whitby campus through a tasting competition with an international flair. Stop by the atrium to cheer on your favourite student team.  Cooking takes place from 9 to 11:30 a.m., with the tasting starting at 11:30 a.m. The team with the best-tasting dish will win a prize. All are welcome.
