Construction on campus

Summer 2018 is shaping up to be a busy one at Durham College (DC) with a significant number of construction projects happening at the Oshawa and Whitby campuses.

Below is an outline of current and upcoming construction projects, as well as links to maps of each campus that can be used to locate areas affected by construction.  

Whitby campus main entrance

Status: underway

Completion: May 2018

Impact:

Simcoe building demolition

Status: targeted for Monday, July 16

Completion: mid-September 2018

Impact:

Simcoe Geothermal Field project

The Simcoe Geothermal Field project is part of a multi-year initiative to create a net-zero carbon footprint in existing campus buildings by using reclaimed land from the Simcoe building to install a geothermal field, Innovation Centre and piping network. 

Status: begins May 2018

Completion: March 2019

Impact:

Furnishing and outfitting the Centre for Collaborative Education (CFCE)

Through the final phase of the CFCE project, the internal finishings will be installed. This includes décor, furniture, IT and audio-visual components.

Status: begins Monday, April 30

Completion: Friday, August 31

Impact:

B-wing renovation

The B-wing summer renovation project will result in the reconfiguration of academic and office space on the second floor, providing additional classroom capacity and increasing the number of faculty offices. There will also be minor classroom improvements on the first floor. 

Status: begins May 2018

Completion: Friday, August 31

Impact:

L-wing renovation

The L-wing summer renovation project will focus on a reconfiguration and refresh of both the first and second floors that will include sustainability improvements to lighting and upgrades to IT, audio visual and mechanical infrastructure in the area.

Status: begins Saturday, April 28

Completion: Friday, August 31

Impact:

G-wing renovation

The former squash courts in the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre are being converted into two levels of academic space including three new laptop/desktop classrooms, as well as two labs to support the Fitness and Health Promotion program. 

Status: underway

Completion: Friday, August 31

Impact:

There will be close to 60 classrooms offline at various times over the summer. This means space on our campuses will be extremely limited. Everyone is encouraged to carefully consider their needs with this in mind, prior to submitting requests for classroom space.

Signage will be posted in all areas being impacted by the renovations.
