Sharing sad news of the passing of Terry Rigby

This message is being sent on behalf of Don Lovisa, president, Durham College.

Dear students,

It is with a very heavy heart that I share news of the sudden passing of Terry Rigby on March 7.

For nearly a decade, Terry has been a dedicated and passionate educator at the college, fondly considered a jack-of-all trades who was always willing to jump in to help others. He will be remembered for his warmth and how he continually went above and beyond to support students and colleagues alike.

Terry was a proud Durham College graduate of the Chemical Engineering program. He joined the college as an employee in 2009, starting as a laboratory technologist with what was then known as the School of Applied Sciences and Technology (now the School of Science and Engineering Technology) and eventually going on to also teach a variety of science-related courses. Most recently, he was a laboratory field technologist with the Centre for Food.

At this time, funeral arrangements are not known, but we will share them as soon as information becomes available.

Terry will be dearly missed by many. In honour of his life, flags at the Oshawa and Whitby campuses will be lowered later today and will remain lowered until the same time tomorrow.

Our thoughts are with Terry’s family and friends at this time.
