Notice of upcoming DC Board of Governors student governor election and DC Students Inc. election

DC Board of Governors

Constituency group

Eight-person Board of Directors, one director per academic school.

Three executives:

  • 1 President
  • 1 Vice-president, External
  • 1 Vice-president, Internal

One (1) student governor position.

Term of office

One year, beginning May 1, 2018 and ending April 30, 2019.

One year, beginning September 1, 2018 and ending August 31, 2019

Candidate eligibility

Any full-time DC student who is:

  • Enrolled in a program of instruction and actively participating in the program.
  • In good academic standing.
  • Has paid fees as at the close of the nomination period.

Any full-time DC student who is:

  • Enrolled in a program of instruction and actively participating in the program.

  • Has paid fees as at the close of the nomination period.

Time commitment

Board – 5 to 10 hours per month.

President – 35 hours a week.

Vice-president(s) – 20 hours a week.

Approximately 10 to 15 hours per month.

Compensation

  • Eight (8) board directors: receive no compensation, these are volunteer positions.
  • 1 president (full-time) role: $40,000 for 37.5 hours a week.
  • 1 vice-president, External (part-time) role: $20,000 for 20.5 hours a week.
  • 1 vice-president, Internal (part-time) role: $20,000 for 20 hours a week.
    • Governors receive no compensation, this is a volunteer position.
 

What’s involved?

The directors will:

  • Attend all board meetings.
  • Review and vote on motions,

documents and decisions.

  • Represent their respective school and the student body with the utmost dignity.

The executives:

  • Represent the interests of the entire full-time student population at Durham College, present and future.
  • Are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization in cooperation with DC Students Inc. management and membership.
  • Report to the Board of Directors and work with the management team within DC Students Inc. to ensure students are heard, engaged and receive good services.

The DC student governor will:

  • Represent the college as student governor for the 2018-2019 academic year.
  • Help shape the future and strategic direction of the college, providing the student perspective.
  • Attend board and standing committee meetings.
  • Have the opportunity to participate in professional development opportunities and special events.
