Purpose
The late Sergio Marchionne was one of the most highly respected executives in the history of the automotive industry. Born in Italy and raised and educated in Canada, Marchionne is remembered for his adept revivals of automakers Fiat and Chrysler through innovative and non-traditional approaches to industry operations.
Educated at the University of Toronto and the University of Windsor, Sergio Marchionne also served as the Chairman of FCS, CEO of Ferrari, Chairman of Maserati and CEO of FCA US.
To commemorate the life of Sergio Marchionne and his invaluable contributions to the automotive industry in Canada, the Trillium Automobile Dealers Association has established a memorial scholarship in his name. The goal of this scholarship is to promote and support educational advancement and skills development for Ontario students pursuing a career in the automotive retail and service industry.
Scope
This annual award will be presented to an individual currently enrolled in a post-secondary program at any recognized institution (college or university) in the province of Ontario who:
a/ is enrolled in an automotive service or management program
b/ is enrolled in a related program (including but not limited to Business, Finance, Accounting, Humanities, Social Science, Human Resources, etc.) and demonstrates a passion for the automotive retail and service industry
c/ is planning a career in the automotive retail and service industry and requires additional education to achieve this goal
Upon receipt of the scholarship, an applicant may not reapply in subsequent years. Applicants who do not receive the scholarship are, however, encouraged to reapply.
Criteria
Applicants will be evaluated on a variety of factors, including:
- Financial Need
- Academic Achievement (Transcripts may be requested during the selection process)
- Community and Extracurricular Involvement
- Demonstrated Leadership
- Previous Involvement in the Automotive Retail and Service Industry (ie: employment, co-op placement, apprenticeship)
Applicants must complete all sections of the required application package and include a personal video message in which they convey a passion for the automotive retail and service industry.
Value
The TADA Sergio Marchionne Memorial Scholarship carries a one-time value of $5000.00 (CAD) presented to one recipient per year.
