Joubin/Selig Scholarship – Frequently Asked Questions

Please review the following Questions & Answers to best help you assess your eligibility to apply for the Joubin/Selig Scholarship at the Toronto Foundation.

  1. 1.     Can you let me know more about the nature of the disabilities that a person would have that would make them eligible to apply for the Joubin/Selig Scholarship?

Answer:

The student population that the Joubin/Selig Scholarship Award is supporting is those students who are living with physical, mobility disabilities who may need assistance to get around on a daily basis. Students who may be living with learning disabilities, speech impediments, or other types of non-mobility disabilities are, unfortunately, not eligible for this award.

  1. 2.     What do you look for besides grades in assessing a scholarship applicant?

Answer:

Good grades are a must to be considered for the scholarship. We also look at students’ commitment to the community as demonstrated through their volunteer and extra-curricular activities.

  1. 3.     If I win the scholarship, do you send the scholarship grant directly to me?

Answer:

No. The award winner’s scholarship cheque is mailed directly to the educational institution (college or university) to be deposited into their student account.

  1. 4.     What if I didn’t get my acceptance letter (if I am going into my first year) by the time I send in the application?

Answer:

If we do not get your letter of acceptance (for first year students) we cannot process your application. Please send them to us as soon as you receive it.

Please note in your application form that you have not received your letter of acceptance and when you hope to receive it. Please let us know if you will be mailing or emailing the items, and when.

  1. 5.     I don’t have my final transcripts. Do I send them to you as soon as I receive it?

Answer:

Yes. Please include your draft/interim transcripts with your application. Sometimes, the university or college sends the transcript directly to us. Please let us know when we should receive it.
