LGBT COMMUNITY CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE LGBT YOUTH JUSTICE BURSARY

Do you know a young Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgendered (LGBT) leader in your community?

Nominations are being accepted for the 2012 Toronto Police Service LGBT Youth Justice Bursary.  LGBT is an inclusive term; one that includes all gender identities and sexual minorities.

Four $1,000 bursaries  will be given to students aged 17 to 26, who display youth leadership, peaceful conflict resolution while raising awareness for LGBT social justice issues and LGBT youth justice issues.

The annual bursary is sponsored by the Toronto Police Service and the Toronto Police LGBT Community Consultative Committee (CCC).

LGBT youth continue to be among the most marginalized youth in the City of Toronto. Some lack support from their families, face a high risk of conflict with the law and developing substance abuse issues at a very early stage in life, and are more likely to attempt suicide than straight youth.

The bursary awards are an opportunity for the Toronto Police Service to recognize the achievements made by LGBT youth in the City of Toronto and support these youth in overcoming the very real challenges they often sometimes face.

Bursary nominations must be received at Toronto Police Service Headquarters, 40 College St, LGBT Liaison officer, APU/LGBT Office.
