Nova Scotia Hearing and Speech Centres Bursary

Award Name/Title: Nova Scotia Hearing and Speech Centres Bursary

Amount: Two Bursaries of $5,000 each

Application Status: Closed

Application Due Date: September 30, 2014

Awards Details:

Nova Scotia Hearing and Speech Centres (NSHSC) is offering two Bursaries to qualified students enrolled in a Communications Disorders Assistant’s program or the 2014/2015 academic year.

The Bursary will provide financial assistance to two qualified candidates who are enrolled in a College program.

Nova Scotia hearing and Speech Centres will attempt to identify the most likely sites for employment, but cannot guarantee a specific site.

Repayment Obligation

If a student fails to graduate or to commence employment within 6 months after graduation, the full amount of the Bursary will be immediately repayable to NSHSC by the student.

Students who do graduate and commence employment, but do not for any reason complete the two consecutive year commitment, will be required, as soon as employment ceases, to reimburse NSHSC on a pro-rated basis, based upon the number of months less than 24 that have actually been worked.

Application

Application is to be made in writing to NSHSC, to the attention of the Manager of Human Resources, by a letter discussing why the student is applying for the Bursary. The application must be accompanied by an NSHSC application form (www.nshsc.nshealth.ca), transcripts of the student’s most recent post secondary or high school education, together with two references.

The Committee will review all applications received and will interview those applicants it judges most likely to benefit from the Bursary.

The format of the interview will be the same as the basic employment interview used by NSHSC to assess applicants for employment and will include scenario questions, problem solving questions, etc. The interview will be scored independently by the Selection Committee.

Upon graduation, the successful candidate will supply a copy of the final year transcript and confirmation of successful completion of the program in Communication Disorders.

The deadline for applicants to submit all application documentation is September 30, 2014.
